£300 winter fuel payment scrapped by Labour
Up to 2 million financially struggling older people could lose annual payments worth hundreds of pounds under Government plans to restrict the winter fuel allowance.
Only those receiving less than £218.15 per week in pensions (or £332.95 per week for couples) will now qualify.
This decision has been criticised by organisations such as Age UK for the impact it will have on pensioners later this year.
The decision by the new Labour Government will mean 71% of pensioners with a disability and 83% of over 80s will lose out according to the Government’s own analysis.
Local Conservatives are calling for targeted support for low-income pensioners, who will lose their winter fuel payments because of Labour’s new unfair criteria.
