As local Conservatives we listen to our residents.
And we recognised where traffic calming measures needed to change.
We are also absolutely committed to our ambitious target of growing the greenest inner London borough by 2030.
But the Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) we had in place were just not working for local residents and businesses. There were gridlocks on our roads which increased carbon emissions; emergency vehicles were getting blocked in, and the daily lives of many residents were being disrupted.
So we listened, learned, and took action – we have removed the LTNs.
We will now reflect and explore alternative options to decarbonise our neighbourhoods which work for residents and the business community.
However, the Mayor of London’s disruptive changes to the A24 remain in place, worsening pollution with huge traffic jams, and causing chaos on our roads. And what is more, damaging the businesses already reeling under the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are therefore calling on him to fix those issues too, before there is more damage to our community.
Let’s get our transport networks moving again. And let’s grow a cleaner greener Wandsworth that works for everyone.
