The council has welcomed news that a successful shared ownership housing development in Nine Elms, Battersea, has been shortlisted for a national award.
Next to Battersea Power Station on the River Thames, Riverlight is being judged for the Best Large Development award in the National Housing Awards 2018.
The mixed-use development includes 116 one- and two-bedroom apartments exclusively sold to local people who had registered for shared ownership opportunities.
Councillor Kim Caddy, Wandsworth’s cabinet member for housing said: "This is exciting news for our residents at Riverlight and is testament to the hard work put into ensuring that the new homes in Nine Elms are not only high-quality but also available to local people.
"We are proud that Wandsworth residents who registered for the Council's low-cost home ownership service got the opportunity to buy a shared ownership apartment in this award-winning Riverlight development."
The scheme was completed by Optivo housing association in 2017 and was the first allocation of shared ownership housing in Nine Elms.
Designed by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, each property in Riverlight has a private balcony or winter garden, designer kitchen and underfloor heating.
Felicity Gentle, Sales and Marketing Director at Optivo, said: "We're so proud our Riverlight development has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.
"These homes have provided access to the housing market for young professionals in a part of London which is seeing vast improvements to infrastructure.
"All the apartments benefit from an excellent, high quality specification and have been carefully thought out to suit modern lifestyles. This scheme also benefits from a beautiful landscaped environment, including newly created river walks to allow views over the Thames."
Overall, the regeneration of the whole Nine Elms opportunity area will deliver 20,000 new homes, 4,000 of which will be shared ownership or low cost housing.
