Engineers at Conservative controlled Wandsworth Council have drawn up initial plans to improve Bedford Hill between Balham Station Road and Balham High Road.
The £1m project, which was drawn up following consultation with local people, will make the area more attractive and revitalise local trade. Proposals are at an early stage and over the coming weeks local people will be given chance to comment. This feedback will then be used to further develop the scheme.
Ideas include:
- repaving Bedford Hill between Balham High Road and Balham Station Road – in granite and similar to Hildreth Street
- resurfacing the road and introduction of measures to reduce the speed of vehicles
- installation of a crossing
- installation of entry treatments to reduce the dominance of cars and make the area user friendly for wheelchair users and people pushing prams
- removal of unnecessary signs and street furniture as well as planting of more street trees
