Wandsworth residents are being encouraged to have a royal celebration to mark the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after the Council agreed to waive its charges for organising a street party.
With the nation preparing to celebrate in May, the Conservative controlled Council is urging people to get together with family, friends and neighbours to host a memorable street party. To encourage people, Councillors have decided there will be no charge for organising a royal wedding street party - meaning residents can spend that bit extra on flags, bunting, food and drink. The normal charge would be £93.
Residents must bear in mind that some streets cannot be closed for a party - main roads whose closure would create too much congestion, Transport for London controlled red routes or roads which are part of a bus route.
Organisers can get more information from www.wandsworth.gov.uk/streetparties or by emailing [email protected].
