Conservative controlled Wandsworth Council has approved a new underground station in Nine Elms.
The station, which opens in 2020 and is the first new underground station in the Borough for 95 years, moves Battersea closer to the historic day that Northern Line trains start running.. The main entrance will be on Battersea Park Road but there will also be an entrance in the Power Station development and a tunnel under Battersea Park Road will link to Stewarts Road.
Funded completely by private sector developers, the station will support the 25,000 jobs and 1000s of new homes (of which 2,400 are affordable) in Nine Elms.
Commenting on the station, Chairman of the Council’s Planning Committee said:
“This is a momentous occasion in Nine Elms story. Bringing the Northern Line to Battersea has been an aim of the Council for many years and is a crucial part of Europe’s biggest regeneration project”.
