Wandsworth Council miss deadline for Christmas tree collection for a second time. Trees remain scattered across the borough.
- Wandsworth’s Labour Council has failed to meet its deadline for Christmas tree collection for a second time
- The Council was forced to extend its deadline for collecting all trees from 16th January to 23rd January, but has still failed to complete the collection
- Piles of trees remain scattered across the borough’s pavements, blocking access for mobility impaired residents
- Wandsworth Conservatives call on the Labour Administration to be honest to residents about why the service has failed and when the collection will be completed
Tuesday 24th January: Wandsworth Council has missed two deadlines for the Christmas Tree collection service. The Council originally said the collection would be complete by Monday 16th January but failed to meet this deadline.
The Council then put the deadline back to Monday 23rd January. But one day after the new deadline, Christmas trees remain scattered across the brough. Piles of trees have been reported across Battersea, Balham, Wandsworth Common and Tooting, making life unacceptably difficult for residents with buggies or mobility difficulties.
Cllr Jonathan Cook, Wandsworth Conservatives Spokesperson for the Environment said:
“This whole situation is a joke, and not a funny one. The Council failed to collect the trees when the Labour administration originally said it would and have now missed their second deadline. The Council should just be honest, admit it has failed, and explain when the collection will be completed and how this fiasco will not be repeated next year."
