Yesterday evening Labour councillors voted against tracking the implementation of their party’s own policies at Wandsworth Council’s Children’s Committee.
When Conservative councillors challenged the Labour run council to publish data on their progress towards meeting their manifesto pledges, Labour councillors briefly postponed the meeting to discuss whether to vote for it or not.
After receiving instructions from their party bosses, they voted against scrutiny on decision making.
Cllr Matthew Corner, who proposed the vote, said: “it was extraordinary to hear Labour councillors talk about the importance of increased transparency on the council’s policies, but then vote against it when it came to a vote.
It means that residents will be left in the dark as to whether their money is being spent effectively or not.”
