The first phase of one of the biggest council house building programmes in the country, Building Homes for Wandsworth People, has been announced by Conservative controlled Wandsworth Council. Over £150 million will be spent building hundreds of properties for rent or shared ownership – all the properties will be for people who live or work in the Borough. Existing Council tenants who “under occupy” their home will be given the option of moving into one of the new properties.
The Council has already identified 10 sites across the Borough for the new house building programme though 61 homes are already being built in Putney, Tooting and Batttersea.
Cllr Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “Building Homes for Wandsworth People will provide 605 new council homes so that sons and daughters of existing residents’ and working households vital to the local economy and to local services can live in the Borough”.
