People rely on good quality public transport, and today’s U-turn by Sadiq Khan over his proposed cuts to bus services across Wandsworth will be much welcomed by the public.
Wandsworth Conservative Councillors and residents collected thousands of signatures from across Wandsworth asking for local bus services to be protected and will be pleased to see Sadiq Khan’s U-turn.
The Mayor of London controls TfL’s budget and is responsible for the distribution of bus routes across the city and it falls on Sadiq Khan to ensure their smooth operation and funding. His U-turn today acknowledges that his plans for cuts were not proportionate.
Lee Roberts, Conservative Parliamentary Spokesman for Putney, Roehampton, Southfields, and Wandsworth Town said:
“Thousands of people signed the petition against these cuts to bus services and undoubtedly, they will be pleased to see Sadiq Khan’s U-turn today. However, we need to remain vigilant and continue to protect our local buses from cuts in the future.”
Cllr Caroline de La Soujeole, St Mary’s Ward, said:
“Residents in my ward were very concerned about these cuts to local bus routes and will rightly be delighted to see this U-turn from the Mayor. As a Council Group we will continue pushing Wandsworth Council to stand up to Sadiq Khan and ensure Wandsworth commuters get a fair deal from City Hall.”
