Conservative controlled Wandsworth Council has welcomed news that the Northern Line is to benefit from increased capacity. Following lobbying by the Council, the number of trains that run on the Northern Line between 5pm and 7pm will rise significantly.
A new timetable from TfL shows that the peak period, when trains run more frequently, is to double. This will benefit the 220,000 people that use the Northern Line between 5pm and 7pm – many from Balham and Tooting.
Councillor Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “This news is great for the people of Wandsworth, particularly those living in Tooting and Balham and is the culmination of years of campaigning by the Council for better Northern Line services. The Northern Line is the busiest line on the London Underground and this new timetable is going to give people traveling in and out of the borough, far less congested and faster journeys.
