People in 2,400 properties on Wandsworth’s housing estates will see heating and hot water bills fall by 5% in April 2018. The reduction, in addition to last year’s 10% fall, is because the Conservative controlled Council has purchased gas in advance at competitive rates.
Over the past 9 years, the cost of heating and hot water for a 1 bedroomed property using a communal boiler has fallen by 48% - and by 50% for a 2 bedroomed property. These reductions have been achieved while costs for other domestic energy customers have increased by 20%.
Wandsworth’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Clare Salier said: “This is great news for people living on our estates whose central heating and hot water is provided by communal boilers. By planning ahead and purchasing our gas at good rates we have been able to deliver significant savings on fuel bills until at least April 2019”.
